Advocacy

DSW’s advocacy efforts concentrate on stressing the need for improved health information, services and supplies, coupled with sufficient, stable health financing from both the government and its development partners.

Our Approach

Central to our work is the extensive cooperation we engender with our partners and networks; and in working with a diversity of national stakeholders, including government institutions, national and local policy makers, international development partners and members of civil society. Through building synergies with national and global stakeholders, DSW has been successful in positioning sexual and reproductive health issues on national and international agendas.

Our approach relies upon strengthening and supporting the broader civil society in this work. Several of our efforts aim at improving the capacity of civil society organisations to effectively mobilise resources for RH programming, advocating for national government health policy reform and financing that benefits the vulnerable and voiceless sections of society—particularly women and young people.

DSW helps to build effective reproductive health coalitions and partnerships that advance the needs of people at the grassroots level, linking the voice of local communities to health promotion debates at the national level. These take the form of annual and seasonal roundtables and dialogues with national leaders, organising of petitions, participating in law and policy reviews, workshops and maintaining active dialogue with different platforms that offer space to advance health promotion.

DSW will continue to work with diverse stakeholders at all levels in order to promote the prioritisation of health and successful achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. Due recognition of the importance of reproductive health, and ensuring the effective involvement of civil society, remains a key efforts that contribute to the elimination of poverty and of inclusive development.
