As the world’s largest donor to global poverty alleviation and economic development—accounting for two-thirds of Official Development Assistance (ODA)—the European Union and its Member States play an important role in global population policies. Europe’s aspiring leadership in development cooperation has seen enormous improvements in its support for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), AIDS and population assistance, but continued support is needed to ensure that we all collectively achieve the Millennium Development Goals and the ICPD Programme of Action
