
Parliamentary Group on Population and Development, Berlin
DSW’s All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on SRHR, the Parliamentary Group on Population and Development – founded in 2003 – works to ensure that the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Cairo Plan of Action (PoA) are implemented. To this end, the APPG, consisting of Members of Parliament from all political parties represented in the German Bundestag, organises hearings, resolutions and public events in the German Parliament to motivate the German government to sustain and scale up its support for SRHR and the Cairo PoA as a means to achieve the MDGs.

On November 24th, DSW organized a parliamentary breakfast on Research and Development (R&D) regarding TB. Dr. Mario Raviglione, Director of the Stop TB Department of WHO, presented the new Global Plan to Stop TB 2011-2015 as well as the challenges and needed action points regarding the fight against TB. Despite the progress in the last years, in 2010, 8.9 million people got infected with TB, 95% of them living in developing and emerging countries. A lot of them are coinfected with HIV as well. In the framework of the European Alliance on Vulnerable Girls (EAVG), DSW together with EPF brought a six-member high level Parliamentary delegation from 4 European countries and Australia to Rwanda for a week-long field visit on the situation of young women and adolescent girls that was hosted by ARBEF, the Rwanda Association for Family Welfare (IPPF Member Association).
